Financial Controller

The Opportunity:

Solvest is seeking a self-directed and experienced Financial Controller to oversee all financial and
accounting activities. This position is responsible for budget management, financial analysis, payroll,
forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting.

Solvest is seeking multiple Solar Technicians to join our team. Solar Technicians work as members of our
solar installation teams installing residential, commercial, and utility scale solar and energy storage
projects. Work includes working at heights and assisting electricians when required.

Employment Status: Permanent Full Time – 40 hours per week
Wage Range: $95,000 - $120,000 per annum (based on experience) plus annual performance bonus

Job Description:

The chosen applicants will be trained and expected to perform the following tasks:

The chosen candidate is expected to perform the following tasks:
  • Analyze company cash flow/budgeting and work with senior management to ensure adequate liquidity.
  • Conduct audits of spending by departments as well as quoted vs actual costs for sales on a quarterly and yearly basis. This will allow for adjustments to department budgets and sales costs to ensure profitability targets are achieved.
  • Analyze company overhead costs and identify areas for cost reductions and optimizations to improve the company profits and reduce unnecessary expenditures.
  • Responsible for the construction and implementation of financial systems at the direction of the Fraction CFO.
  • Identify Federal or Territorial funding or financing programs which could be beneficial to the company and provide an analysis to the CFO/CEO.
  • Oversee the bookkeeper in the bi-weekly preparation of company payroll and guide them on going professional development.
  • Oversee the company purchasing system to ensure that spending is minimized, organized, and conducted at the specified intervals. Prepare year end records for annual tax filings for review by 3rd party accountants and CFO.
  • Coordinating with the CRA for monthly corporate taxes, payroll/GST remittances and year end filings.
  • Ensure Accounts Receivable are received within specified terms.
  • Prepare required information for the CFO to report to primary lenders.
  • Oversees the financial management of subsidiary companies.
  • Coordinate applications and reporting for business support or lending programs approved by the
  • board or CFO.

    Required Skills/Qualification:

  •  CPA designation or equivalent is required.
  •  5-7 years of managerial accounting and financial management experience.
  • Excellent people manager, open to direction and collaboration.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision, and efficiently manage tasks and time.
  • Proficiency with various computer platforms including Microsoft 365, Google Suite and QuickBooks.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in the renewable energy sector is an asset.

Solar Technician 

The Opportunity:

Solvest is seeking multiple Solar Technicians to join our team. Solar Technicians work as members of our
solar installation teams installing residential, commercial, and utility scale solar and energy storage
projects. Work includes working at heights and assisting electricians when required.

Employment Status: Seasonal Full Time – 40 hours per week
Starting Wage: $23.50 per hour + frequent overtime; increasing to $25.00 per hour after a 3-month
probation period

Job Description:

The chosen applicants will be trained and expected to perform the following tasks:

  •  Install solar photovoltaic systems at various worksites. Install all components in keeping with Solvest’s training standards and industry best practices as well as product installation manuals. All electrical aspects of the project are directly supervised by the crew Electrician.
  • Set up scaffolding, ladder and scissor lift systems in keeping with safety standards to allow for safe access to working roof surfaces.
  • Assist other crew members and warehouse coordinator in loading materials in preparation for jobs.
  • Clean and organize the truck and warehouse tool spaces.
  • Install ground mount – Nuance Racking – including installing the earth anchors and testing each anchor with the load locker.
  • Assist electricians in pulling and strapping cable or installing inverters as required.
  • Ensure the worksite is clean organized and safe at all times.
  • Complete all work in a timely manner.
  • Operate company vehicles.
  • Be respectful and polite to clients, other contractors, and members of the community.

Required Skills/Qualification:

Electrical Journeyman

The Opportunity:

Solvest is seeking one permanent Red Seal Electrician to join the team. Solvest electricians work on solar photovoltaic installations throughout the Yukon, Northwest Territories (NWT), and Nunavut. Electricians work directly with Solvest construction teams to install solar systems of various sizes across
Northern Canada.
Employment Status: Permanent Full Time
Starting Wage: $40 per hour + frequent overtime
Benefits: Health and Dental Benefits; 5 paid sick days per year; two weeks paid vacation; paid gym membership; annual performance bonus

Job Description:

The chosen applicant will be trained and expected to perform the following tasks:
  • Conduct all electrical work, both conventional and renewable energy specific, in compliance with the current Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and applicable OHS regulations.
  • Work with the Solvest Operations Team to install renewable energy systems at residential, commercial, and utility scales, throughout Northern Canada.
  • Mentor and train electrical apprentices and installation teams.
  • Review electrical drawings and schematics with management prior to applying for permits.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning grid tied and off grid renewable energy systems.
  • Review drawings and schematics, obtain electrical permits in Solvest’s name, liaise with electrical inspectors, and apply for final inspections upon completion of permitted projects.
  • Commission residential and commercial solar systems including online monitoring, system performance, safety, client understanding and awareness, and QA/QC.
  • Complete all work in a timely manner and notify the Electrical Superintendent of any delays that will take additional time to address.
  • Ensure the worksite is clean, organized, and safe at all times.
  • Be respectful and polite to clients, other contractors, and members of the community.

Required Skills/Qualification:

  • Must be a certified Red Seal electrician.
  • Experience in residential and small commercial electrical is required.
  • Experience working on energized equipment is required.
  • Exceptional people and social skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and pivot working priorities to meet multiple demands with little
    supervision.
  • Ability to provide high levels of service consistently.
  • Experience in successfully negotiating solutions to complex problems.
  • Class 5 (or above) valid driver’s license.
  • Previous solar experience would be considered an asset.
